FAQ’s regarding New Nurse Practitioner service at the WICMC
What is the new service being provided?
Aridia Medical Clinic will provide Nurse Practitioner health services at the WICMC on Wednesdays from 3:30 PM to 7:00PM starting February 4th, 2026. Last patient check-in is at 6:30 pm.
What services can a Nurse Practitioner perform?
Nurse Practitioners can diagnose health conditions and injuries, prescribe medications and treat conditions, perform certain medical procedures, order and interpret diagnostic tests and make referrals to your family doctor, specialist or other health care professionals.
For additional information, you can refer to the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Who can access this service?
All residents of Wolfe and Simcoe Islands and visiting family members and friends can see the Nurse Practitioner during clinic hours, on a walk-in basis as well as pre-booked appointments through Aridia Medical Clinic.
Is there a charge for using this service?
There is no charge for Wolfe and Simcoe Island residents and property owners during the 12 month pilot, thanks to the generosity of The Township of Frontenac Islands, WICMC fundraising and your donations to WICMC.
Visiting family members and friends can access the service, but they will need to register with and pay Aridia Medical Clinic.
This is a planned pilot for 12 months. What will happen after the 12-month pilot?
During the 12-month pilot, WICMC with financial support from the Township of Frontenac Islands, will cover the cost of Nurse Practitioner fees at WICMC for WI residents. The service and billing practices will be assessed during the pilot period and a decision will be made regarding extension of services.
At this time, Nurse Practitioners cannot bill OHIP directly for their services; however the Ontario government is expected to change billing practices to allow Nurse Practitioners to bill OHIP directly. When this change happens, the WICMC will see if this will help bring additional Nurse Practitioners to the island.
Will this impact my relationship with my physician? Will I be de-rostered if I use this service?
No. Since there will be no billing processed through OHIP, there will be no impact on you or your relationship with your family physician.
Will there be an impact to residents who are patients of Dr. Sproule?
No. Dr Sproule will continue her regular hours at the clinic. Her rostered patients can access Nurse Practitioner services as well.
