WICMC April 2026 News
Wolfe Island Community Medical Clinic – Update April 2026
We hope everyone had a happy and healthy winter season – Good spring weather is just around the corner!
The Board of Directors has been busy over the past number of months and we want to provide you with an update.
As announced in February, Aridia Medical began providing a Nurse Practitioner – led weekly walk-in clinic for Wolfe and Simcoe Island Residents on Wednesdays from 3:30PM to 7:00PM (last patient check-in is at 6:30 pm).
The Clinic has been extremely well attended and the feedback from the community has been absolutely amazing and very supportive.
This new service is a 12-month pilot.
There is no charge for Wolfe and Simcoe Island residents and property owners during the pilot, thanks to the generosity of The Township of Frontenac Islands, WICMC fundraising and your donations to WICMC.
For more details, including booking appointment info and other FAQ’s, visit our Nurse Practitioner Service Page.

In March, from the County of Frontenac, we received an additional matching grant that will allow us to expand the hours of this service to include another day per week. More details will be available in late spring on the clinic day and hours.
We want to thank the many board members involved in establishing this relationship with Aridia, the Township and County for their funding support.
Health care program funding is distributed under the authority of the Province of Ontario, and is calculated in part via the Rurality Index for Ontario (RIO) External link score. Based on the calculation, Wolfe Islands’ score did not meet the threshold to allow us to qualify for funding for health care service on the island. We are working with our municipal governments to request a re-review of this calculation as it did not take into account for the ferry time travel – time travel being a key component of the calculation. Please see the external link above for more information on the ROI.
Recently, the Province of Ontario, announced changes to the public funding model for services provided by Nurse Practitioners. This would allow Nurse Practitioners to bill directly to OHIP for services provided. It will take time for these changes to come into effect that would in the end provide funding support for the Nurse Practitioner profession.
The intention is that the one-year Nurse Practitioner funded pilot project will provide on-island care for residents until those funding changes come into effect and our ROI score is reviewed and adjusted accordingly. In addition, we have also submitted to two granting agencies in hopes that we can add to the funds we have already received to support our pilot program.
Other Health Services
Last summer our Foot Care Nurse and Dental Hygienist began providing their services along with LifeLabs Blood and Specimen Collection.
A shout out about our Assistive Devices Loan Program.
There are approximately 116 items now available for loan, free of charge. Items include several wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes, bathroom assist, an air boot, and a hospital bed. The utilization by residents of these services has exceeded expectations and the feedback is overwhelmingly amazing.
Please visit our services page for information and on how to access these services or to book an appointment.
Wolfe Island Classic Race
We are in the planning phase for this summers’ Wolfe Island Classic Road Race.
This is a major fundraiser for the clinic so please join us on July 5th. Any students needing volunteer hours should contact us and we will coordinate. Volunteers are much appreciated so please consider joining us for a few hours on the event day.
We thank you for your ongoing feedback and support. We appreciate you and invite you to attend our annual general meeting scheduled for May 24th at 1PM at the Hotel Wolfe Island.
